Water Awareness

“Water is like a giant extended over the entire earth, and yet it embraces all wisdom in each tiniest drop.”
Theodor Schwenk

Water, by its simplest definition, is life. Every living thing on Earth requires water to survive. About 70 percent of the human body is made up of water and, coincidentally, more than 70 percent of Earth is covered in water. All forms of life manifest through water. It is the mediating element of spirit to the physical world.

Water creates an environment that sustains and nurtures plants, animals and humans. The value of water is about much more than its price. Water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment. If we overlook any of these values, we risk mismanaging this finite, irreplaceable resource. Embracing water’s true, multidimensional value is critical to safeguard this essential life giving element for everyone.

Water has both practical and spiritual meaning. In households, schools and workplaces, water can mean health, hygiene, dignity and productivity. In cultural, religious and spiritual places, water can mean a connection with creation, community and oneself. In natural spaces, water can mean peace, harmony and preservation. Today, water is under extreme threat from a growing population, increasing demands of agriculture and industry, and the worsening impacts of climate change. Water is a unique and non-substitutable resource.

“The present water emergency could be the means whereby humankind is brought again to revere this wisdom-saturated element.”

-Theodor Schwenk

Local and indigenous populations around the world ascribes deeply and explicitly spiritual attributes to water. Springs, wells, and rivers are the homes of deities, have divine healing powers, and enhance processes of spiritual transformation. Water is a representation of wisdom, peace, and purity. The spiritual meaning of water lies in its reflection of the human spirit and the interconnection with all of life. At Simply Water, we believe that attaining optimal cellular hydration can reawaken one to the intrinsic and spiritual dimensions of water.

As Bruce Lee famously said: “Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup.
You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

This depicts the flexibility and the changing nature of water. To be like water, one must embrace fluidity in all ways. Existing in a constant state of change and metamorphosis allows us to integrate the formless, calm, and conscious nature of water. We can drink water with the intention of healing, purification, spiritual wellness, and inner peace. With such focused intention, deep reverence for this significant resource naturally arises within oneself. In essence, water is the life force that centers our spirit and our body, signifying wisdom and conscious awareness.

“To serve the cause of water adequately and to do something practical for the element as such, we must get to know it by taking in its true being. And how do we do this? Why, by treating it in the very way exemplified by its own behavior, that is, wherever we encounter it, we wash the tablet of our souls clean of all other impressions in order to allow the being of water to make its imprint on us.” -Theodor Schwenk
